Frequently Asked Questions About Grief and Healing at Alba Wellness

Below are a few of the most frequently asked questions we recieve, but, of course, if you have other questions about our services feel free to reach out.

• Counseling is a chance to talk over what is on your mind with an objective person. They can help you learn new skills and ways of looking at situations so that you will be more capable of solving problems on your own.

• Counselors are non-judgmental, objective, empathetic, professional, experienced helpers.

• Counselors work to understand your concerns and collaborate with you to address those issues you choose to address.

• Counseling involves addressing issues and concerns to allow you to live the life you want to live.

• Counseling is voluntary and you have the right to continue or terminate counseling at any time you choose.

• Counseling is about confidentiality and what is discussed between you and your counselor should not be shared with others.

Choosing a counselor is about your comfort. It’s important that you feel safe to share those areas you wish to address in counseling. If you feel judged, criticized, or anxious around a therapist you will be less likely to discuss those concerns that brought to counseling in the first place. A counselor should be open hearing your thoughts and feelings and work to minimize any anxiety you may be experiencing.

Some things to consider may be:

 • What is the counselor’s theoretical approach and how will this influence your work together.

• Consider how the gender of your counselor makes you feel and whether this will have an effect on what you will address in counseling.

• A high level of attentiveness. A counselor should actively listen to what you bring to therapy and work to build a collaborative relationship.

• Ultimately, choosing a counselor is about your preference about who will assist you in meeting your goals.

Yes. Numerous studies have shown that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions, especially for conditions like depression, anxiety, and stress. At Alba Wellness, our virtual sessions use the same evidence-based methods as our in-person appointments, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-Based Approaches. You’ll receive the same level of compassionate, personalized care, whether you’re connecting online or in our office.

Getting started is easy. You can call our office at (210) 566-1280 or visit our Contact Page to reach out. We’ll schedule a brief consultation to understand your needs and match you with a therapist who is the right fit for you. Once you’re scheduled, we’ll send you all the information you need to log in to your first online session, including forms, access links, and what to expect. We’re here to walk you through each step of the process.

Your first session is all about getting to know each other. Your therapist will ask about your concerns, history, and what you’d like to achieve through therapy. You’ll also have a chance to ask questions and share anything that feels important. Our goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment, judgment-free and tailored to your pace, where you feel seen, heard, and supported.

Absolutely. At Alba Wellness, your privacy is one of our top priorities. All of our virtual therapy sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video platforms to ensure that your personal information and conversations remain confidential. Just like in-person therapy, everything you share in session stays between you and your therapist, unless there’s a legal or safety concern that requires otherwise.

All you need is a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone, like a smartphone, tablet, or computer. We recommend finding a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable speaking openly. We’ll provide you with clear instructions for logging into your session, and our team is happy to help if you need tech support.

Yes! We know that needs and comfort levels can change. Alba Wellness offers both in-person sessions at our Universal City office and virtual therapy for your convenience. If you’d like to switch formats, whether temporarily or long-term, we’ll do our best to accommodate your preferences and schedule.

Yes, we accept many major insurance plans for both in-person and online therapy. We also offer self-pay options for those without insurance or who prefer not to use it. If you’re unsure whether your plan covers telehealth, our administrative team is happy to verify your benefits and walk you through payment options before your first session.

At Alba Wellness, we combine evidence-based therapy with a deeply human, compassionate approach. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care. Instead, we tailor each treatment plan to your unique needs, values, and life experiences. Our therapists are highly trained, trauma-informed, and genuinely committed to helping you feel supported, empowered, and understood, whether you’re connecting with us from across town or across the state.
